Big Big Train won big big kudos at this year's Prog Awards, being named Band Of The Year and honored as the Best Live Event! A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to have a chat with David Longdon of the band and you can hear that conversation (as well as some great BBT music) on this week's Prog-Watch! We covered a lot of ground, from the current state of the music business as regards creativity and a band's connection to their fans, to that time when David auditioned for Genesis! So you won't want to miss this one! As always, send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com. This week's show is a Proghopper episode centering on the diverse career of Mr. Damian Wilson! I tried to get Damian for an interview show, but we couldn't get it together. So I did the next best thing...because if ever there was a person who could be called a Proghopper, it's Damian! On the show we will be hearing music from Damian's time with Landmarq, Threshold, Ayreon, and Rick Wakeman's New English Rock Ensemble! We'll also hear from Headspace, his band with Adam Wakeman, and from a few of his solo albums, including the brand new one, Built For Fighting! As always, send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com. This week's show is a bit of a departure for Prog-Watch! We chat with the lovely Elaine Samuels of Kindred Spirit, which could probably best be described as a Progressive Folk band. We talk about the band, exploding drummers (a la Spinal Tap), the giants of British Folk (Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, and Lindisfarne) and the tribulations of being a band that doesn't easily fit into one particular genre. Of course, lots of great Kindred Spirit music will be interspersed in between the chat!As always, send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com. This week's show features none other than Colin Tench of Corvus Stone and The Colin Tench Project! Colin and I had a great conversation and I think you will enjoy listening to sections of it, interspersed, of course, with lots of great Corvus Stone and CTP music! The conversation ranged from serious topics like modern record production and the evolution of Pop and Prog music, to the more outrageous, such as the actual origin of the notorious title of the Corvus Stone song, Jussipussi! So don't miss it...it was fun and we had quite a few laughs! As always, send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com. This week on Prog-Watch, we get "Surreal" with Erik Norlander! We talk a lot about the making of his new solo album (entitled "Surreal") and some of the great musicians who played on the album. We also chat about some of his other projects (the Rocket Scientists and Last In Line), the Mexican Prog scene, and why you, the listener, are only three degrees away from Kevin Bacon! Of course, we play plenty of music, too, from Erik's new solo album, and we throw in a couple from the Rocket Scientists for good measure! As always, send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com.
